Pul-luP: History

I have always enjoyed listening , doing, and listening to music, it’s the story of Pul-luP.

Version 0 : The radio web

I start in 2005 to broadcast on my personal computer; It passes, my friend can hear what I want him to listen to. Trials with a somewhat larger audience soon forced the rental of a server with good outgoing bandwidth.

The name Pul-luP was then associated with this ephemeral web radio, which served to broadcast live mixes in streaming on the web and in parallel for associated public events in a virtual world.

Version 1: Keeping track

Some of the “live” live audios of the web-radio have been reworked and it soon became necessary to be able to make them accessible “on demand” and thus was born the first concept of pul-lup.com, initially essentially listings of audios, viewable by style. Then the development phase object of the database part finalized the first version of the site.

I also have developed chains of analysis and visualization of radio listening data to extract maps.

Version 2: Organize your listening

But how do you listen to a “song” at random?
And to loop?
And to chain that there and then that there …?

Yes yes it is in pre-development …

For the second version in 2011, this is the time to manage playlist, build it from the site and navigate in it (next, previous, back to the beginning …).

It is also time to make the site dynamic (ajax) to manage the continuity of service of the audio reading despite the navigation of the user in the “visual” content.

Version 3: Phew! Standards !

In 2014, all the great browsers begin to manage the <audio> tag of html5, so I can finally lift the original flash dependency for audio playback and completely rebuild the reading aspects around this standard.

I take this opportunity to start a reflection and development around the “responsive” aspect of the site (media queries)

Version 4: Annotations for navigation

Two major new features for this new version released in December 2014:

  • The ability to “navigate through time” within the mixes in a relevant way.
  • An on-line annotation tool available

Version 5: transition to a responsive website

2015, it is time to make the experience enjoyable on different devices (computer monitors, smartphones, tablets …)
